My entry for the Rift Colossus Contest.

First time participating in one of Deviant art contest, and quite loving it. I haven't spend much time doing digital illustrations because I got caught up with college work.

I have to say that its awesome to see the other entries and what other people came up with, some of those concepts are just mind blowing. I'm just happy that I dont need to choose the winner, there is way to many that I'd like to see win =D

Still a nice concept and piece of work!

Like the art and details in the "bone".... the holes in the mouth are pretty neat too...

Any particular reason for the holes?

You know originally when creating this piece those "bone" area your talking about was suppose to be sinew and mouth skin of the creature. And while painting it I was pretty proud of how it turned out. But after a year since painting it and some small experience gain in levelling up my skill,... you are totally right, it does look like bone doesn't it :D Man funny how much could have changed by just learning a few new tricks along the line. Have to say there is a whole lot of things obviously that looks crappy now that I look at it, and now I can see where I could have done things differently. Like obviously making those areas looks more fleshy :)

But ok to answer your actual question, its suppose to be tears in the mouth flesh/skin. But since now it also looks like holes in bones to me, I can't really say it has a purpose, since it wasn't my intention to make it have bones in his mouth like that. But with the skin tearing idea was that since it sucks up its victims or prey in a tornado fashion a lot of the debris would slinger away from the vortex and could damage those skins. And it looks cool and monstrous like :3.
